Yesterday, the RWNZ C2C (Coast to Coast!) Chapter was lucky enough to have Jenny Argante, the Editor in Chief at Oceanbooks as our guest speaker. Oceanbooks is a cooperative publishing company in Mount Maunganui, Bay of Plenty, NZ.
We met at Deryn’s (writing as Virginnia De Parte) home in Papamoa for a fantastic shared luncheon followed by Jennie’s entertaining talk.
Jenny was an English teacher for over two decades and uses her talent and enthusiasm for our language as a writer and editor. She is Editor in Chief at Oceanbooks as well as working independently as an editor and is well-published in fiction and poetry.
She discussed:
- what she, as an editor, looks for in a manuscript (such as grammar, spelling, storyline, timeline, plot details, credibility),
- how to avoid common errors in your writing and
- tips on analysing your writing project.
It was valuable to me, as I’m sure it was to all of us.
